ASSISTANT ORCHARD MANAGER
The purpose of this position is to assist the area manager in all tasks related to the production of high-quality Apples, Cherries and Apricots in the Mattawa, WA area.
The candidate will possess leadership qualities within a team environment, a willingness to teach and implement sound horticultural practices in the field.
The following qualities will make up the characteristics of this position.
- A knowledge of tree fruit farming and a basic understanding of horticulture.
- A willingness to learn and be open to new ideas.
- An ability to work within a team structure.
- An ability to teach others and a willingness to spend time cultivating efficient labor practices in the field.
- A willingness to work with management and crews in order to ensure a safe and pleasant work environment for all.
- Effective communication skills
- An ability to use and teach technology related to fruit production
- English/Spanish bilingual preferred
- Experience in fruit production required
Specifics of this job
- Work with Area Manager to develop, teach and implement sound horticultural practices.
- Work independently to gather and record information through sampling, observation and communication with team members.
- Work daily with crews to assure quality of job and safety of the crew members.
- Work daily to track costs, report to Area Manager, assuring cost targets are met.
